How it all began

From the farm to the Bergkristall

Three generations. One family. A matter of the heart. Our hosts are deeply rooted in the Allgäu. Our senior managers Hans and Hedi realised a dream in 1967 when they converted their dilapidated farm on a hillside into a café and destination restaurant with rooms. The famous Bergstüble came into being and more and more holidaymakers came to experience Hans “the yodelling landlord” and his brothers at folklore evenings with music and jokes. The panorama terrace and Hedi’s homemade dishes were very popular with guests.

The Bergstüble became famous far and wide for being a place of pure joie de vivre. It was with heavy hearts that Hans and Hedi decided to stop farming in 1976 and expand their small holiday hotel. They had big dreams, but always took it one step at a time. We created our own deer park with deer and mouflon, and it became a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.

When love is destiny

As the years went by, the little hamlet of Willis began to attract holidaymaker from near and far to enjoy this peaceful retreat. The famous Schroth Cure in Oberstaufen brought in additional guests looking for relaxation in the healing climate of the Allgäu Alps. In the 1990s, destiny brought their son Hans-Jörg together with Sabine. They took over the business from his parents and worked with them for several years to develop the Bergstüble. Several renovations followed to create the four-star spa hotel with an extensive sauna area, crystal SPA and new rooms and suites.

After one of the largest expansions in 2018, the Lingg family can be proud of creating a 4*S spa hotel with over 130 staff. The rooms in the Bergkristall Residence have been renovated and the Bergkristall Lodge makes the resort an even more popular retreat with its beautiful, light-flooded, studios and suites. The restaurant has been extended with more cosy niches and the wellness area gained its biggest highlight: the 20-metre infinity pool with mountain views. At the end of 2022, eight luxury nature suites opened on the east side. Individual and personal power places that, like the Allgäu itself, exert a magical attraction. The final addition was asked for by many of our guests: a plunge pool with adjoining natural pond. Another sign of the steady but thoughtful progress being made by our Allgäu family business. After all, it wouldn't be the Bergkristall if the next ideas weren't already in the pipeline.
